On their new album, Attics to Eden, Chicago’s Madina Lake conjure up an infectious brand of alternative rock. Channeling everyone from their hometown heroes Smashing Pumpkins to industrial gods Nine Inch Nails, Madina Lake are a band to watch in 2009. Further distinguishing them from the pack, they also have an intriguing lore surrounding their albums that stems from their very name.

Underoath are one of hard rock’s simultaneously most ambient and brutal acts. So it’s no surprise that Underoath vocalist Spencer Chamberlain’s playlist has a healthy dose of Radiohead tempered by some good old fashioned sonic anger. Underoath’s latest album, Lost In the Sound of Separation, bridges the gap between Phil Anselmo and Thom Yorke in the most beautiful way possible. Plus, the band’s gearing up for a headlining slot on the 2009 installment of the Warped Tour this summer.
