“I’m working on a novel right now, and I’ve been listening to the Master and Commander soundtrack over and over again,” Greg says smiling. “I’m in love with that soundtrack! I’ve seen the movie three times. The first time, I didn’t like it. The second time, I loved it and, the third time, I loved it even more [Laughs].”

What was he listening to during the creation of Whiteout though?

He laughs, “Vangelis has an album called Antarctica, and I had that on infinite repeat when I was writing Whiteout.”

Warner Brothers’ big screen adaptation of Greg’s icy masterpiece hits theaters on September 11, and it’s the perfect frost-bitten thrill ride. In order to get us closer to his creative process, Greg shared his playlist with ARTISTdirect.com in this exclusive feature.

Check out Greg’s playlist below and be sure to catch Whiteout in theaters!

Greg Rucka’s Playlist:

1.	Master and Commander — Soundtrack

2.	Vangelis — Antarctica

3.	Warren Zevon

When I was younger and wilder, I used to be able to write to Warren Zevon really well, but I can’t do that anymore [Laughs].

4.	Miles Davis

5.	Stan Getz

6.	Charlie Parker

7.	Lester Boone

I tend to do jazz. I like my standards—Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Stan Getz and when I’m feeling more adventures Lester Boone and guys like that. I actually find that the older I get the less I can work to lyrics. I have to work to music.

He’s rocking everything from The Who to Captain Beefheart right now, and that eclectic side definitely bleeds over onto the Melvins’ forthcoming remix release, Chicken Switch [Ipecac Recordings]. Due out on September 29, Switch gave various remixers the chance to chop up a Melvins album and make one song out of it. The results are quite mind-bending…

ARTISTdirect.com spoke to Buzz about his playlist for this exclusive feature. Check it out below and pick up Chicken Switch when it releases on September 29.

Buzz Osbourne’s Playlist:

1. Miles Davis

The last album that I listened to was Bitches Brew by Miles Davis. That was yesterday. I haven’t had time this morning yet. I like Bitches Brew, and I like the On the Corner record. By and large, I don’t usually like most of his stuff. A lot of his best stuff is from the Bitches Brew and On The Corner sessions, they just chopped it into different records. The stuff he did before that is just like elevator music. I like the weirder stuff.

2. The Who

I was always a huge fan of The Who. I’ve been listening to a lot of their stuff. That was one of my first and favorite bands ever.

3. Captain Beefheart

I was listening to a little bit of Captain Beefheart recently. I like the two records that most people don’t like. I dig “Clear Spot” and “Spot Lake.”
