Green River Ordinance

Guitarist Jamey Ice gives us a peek at what’s rocking his world in this exclusive playlist feature

A Taste:

My Favorite Highway, Thriving Ivory, Led Zeppelin, Marvin Gaye

Green River Ordinance mix Texas swagger with massive melodies for a brand of infectious pop rock that’s as rowdy as a rodeo. On their EMI debut Out of My Hands, the band churns out groove after groove of pure pop gold. Guitarist Jamey Ice sat down with us in this exclusive interview and gave us a look at the music that inspires and influences him. Check out Jamey’s playlist below.

Jamey Ice’s Playlist:

1. My Favorite Highway

“They’re also on Virgin and we listened to them on the drive home last night from Oklahoma. Their album came out yesterday. It’s a really cool pop rock record in the vein of Fall Out Boy. It’s a really catchy album!”

2. Thriving Ivory

“They’re another cool pop alternative band. The singer has a crazy voice. He almost sounds like Geddy Lee from Rush. Their single, ‘Angels on the Moon,’ is massive. Aerosmith wanted to buy the song and do it like ‘Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing,’ but Thriving Ivory wouldn’t sell them the song. They wanted to do it themselves. That definitely gives you an idea of what it is. They’re a great new band.”

Denzel Washington

Posted by Playlisted on Jun 10, 2009 in movie celebrities

Denzel WashingtonDenzel Washington talks about songs “follow him” and shares what will always be on his playlist

A Taste:

Marvin Gaye, Rachmanov

Denzel Washington commands any scene he’s in.

He’s got an unbridled intensity and true fire that’ll never be extinguished—even when he’s stepping back and playing a “normal dude.” Just watch him in The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 for proof of his power. However when he’s kicking back, he’s most likely to be cranking Marvin Gaye.

“Why not,” laughs the Academy Award Winner with a smile.

For him, music is an integral source of inspiration, even if what he personally likes didn’t necessarily inform the Pelham performance. He continues, “Music does inform my performances, but the music I was playing was not in this movie. Obviously, that’s the director’s decision. Tony [Scott, director] did give me some music on Man On Fire. We talked about Nine Inch Nails for that one. He didn’t do that on this film though [Laughs]. Sometimes a song will follow me or I’ll follow it through a whole movie, but that wasn’t the case here.”

Nevertheless, Denzel shared his playlist with us in this exclusive feature. Check it out below and catch The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 in theaters on June 12, 2009.

Snoop DoggSnoop Dogg opens up his iTunes and gives us an exclusive look at what he’s spinning…

A Taste:

Al Green, Willie Hutch, Marvin Gaye

“It’s not a juggle, it’s just what I do,” says Snoop Dogg about his amazing ability to multi-task. As of late, the rap legend has become the paragon of balance—as strange as that sounds. Right now, he’s working on his next album Malice In Wonderland, he’s hosting his very own variety show on MTV, Dogg After Dark, he’s planning upcoming movie projects and he’s got Snoop Dogg’s Fatherhood on E! However, he still finds time to promote the young guns, using Dogg After Dark as a platform for new artists.

The Doggfather opened up his iTunes playlist and gave us an exclusive look inside at what he’s bumpin’ right now. Of course, Snoop keeps it classy.

He laughs, “When people ask me what’s in the iPod, I can never say anything new because there’s never anything new! [Laughs] I’m more old school, you know what I’m saying? I’m about what happened yesterday because I am today.”

Spoken like the true innovator he is!

Check out Snoop Dogg’s playlist below and don’t miss Dogg After Dark every Tuesday on MTV at 9pm PT/ET.
