Erika Jayne keeps it pretty “O.G.”

Though her new album, Pretty Mess, is pure pop ecstasy on tape, she likes to get down and dirty when it comes to her hip hop.

“I listen to a lot of old hip hop,” she laughs with a smile. “I do listen to everything, but right now it’s a lot of old school rap.”

I saw Beyonce the other night, and she was amazing! I love her band and the costumes. Her show is two hours, and she was wearing me out [Laughs]. My live show is certainly not two hours, and I’m not floating from the ceiling like Beyonce does—though I would like to.

I go through phases with all of the music I listen to. I’ve been playing a lot of old school rock at the moment. I’ve been also digging out old albums from N.E.R.D. I love their first record.

3. Ladyhawke

I’ve been listening to a lot of new artists coming out. There’s an English girl called Ladyhawke that’s really good. Her music has got a very Blondie-esque feel.

I love them too!

I love strong female singers like Alison Goldfrapp and Debbie Harry.

To be interesting, I’m going to be like everyone and say Michael Jackson. I was so shocked by his death. My biggest dream in life was to meet Michael Jackson and Madonna. They’re two icons, and they’ve inspired the world. I can’t believe that he’s passed away.
