Steve Martin shares his playlist with ARTISTdirect.com in this exclusive feature…

A Taste:

Ralph Stanley, Mark Johnson, Tony Trischka

Steve Martin can shred on the banjo.

Given his impeccable comedic timing, it makes sense that the legendary comedian has got rhythm. He’s been plucking the strings for a long time, and it certainly shows on his brand new banjo record The Crow [Rounder]. Martin doesn’t simply play though. He’s immersed himself in the instrument and the bluegrass culture.

Right now, he’s spinning lots of talented banjo masters. He shared his playlist with us in the exclusive feature, giving us a few suggestions for entering the bluegrass world. Check out his playlist below.

Steve Martin’s Playlist:

1. Ralph Stanley

2. Mark Johnson

I’m listening to a lot of banjo. There are a lot of new guys that I love listening to.

3. Peter Wernick

4. Tony Trischka

5. John Mceuen

6. Mike Schneider

He’s a great banjo player. I’m meeting new people by playing banjo. It’s a great community. Everyone that I’ve met is friendly, loves music and is very smart.

After hearing the Steep Canyon Rangers with their backup celebrity I think I can now live with the passing of John Hartford. Perfect words on the playlist. Blue Grass is a great community.

The show was TERRIFIC.
