The Melvins, Willie Nelson, Porter Wagner

Mastodon’s Troy Sanders is a true Southern boy. Even though he plays in metal’s most progressive quartet, the Atlanta native loves country. One look at his playlist, and it’s clear that Troy’s got quite eclectic taste.

“My five-CD player at home is still loaded up with the same CDs,” he laughs with a giant grin. “I rarely take out my five classic country albums. That’s my music for cooking, cleaning and all things home-y [Laughs]. I’ve got Willie Nelson, George Jones, John Prine and Porter Wagner. It’s all classic country. Nothing new and exciting to tell you on that end, unfortunately [Laughs].”

Troy still is listening to “a little old and new,” and he gave us an exclusive peek at his playlist.

The ever-talkative guitarist had an answer of course, and he even opened up his iTunes to show us.

Dick explains, “When I start listening to stuff, I go on binges. It all depends on what I’m listening to. I can appreciate everything. I told my son Jimmy, ‘Find the beauty in every kind of music because it took someone’s sweat, blood, heart and soul to create that music.’ You may not like that music but take a little time. When you listen to music, you can always still find and appreciate what the artist did to make it.”

Check out Dick Dale’s playlist below!

Dick Dale’s Playlist:

1. Patsy Cline

“I’ll play Patsy Cline over and over again because she sings with such a tear.”

2. Dean Martin

“I listen to a lot of Dean Martin. The guy has the most sensual, sexy voice. It brings me back to a time in my life when I was performing in Vegas and I knew the Rat Pack. I got Frank Sinatra’s old pool table. He wanted to manage me at one time [Laughs].”
