My Chemical RomanceMy Chemical Romance guitarist Frank Iero offers up his playlist to us in this exclusive feature

A Taste:

The Bronx, Morrissey, The Killers

My Chemical Romance’s Frank Iero may specialize in dark, brooding and bombastic alt rock, but he’s got a soulful side. A look at the My Chem axe man’s iTunes playlist reveals that he’s really into Otis Redding and Percy Sledge. That might be hard to believe when you crank My Chem or Frank’s horrorcore side project, Leathermouth, nevertheless, the man has a very diverse taste in tunes.

Check out Frank’s playlist below and take a gander at My Chemical Romance’s brand new video for their cover of Bob Dylan’s “Desolation Row” from the Watchmen soundtrack.

Frank Iero’s Playlist:

1. The BronxThe Bronx (III)

“How fucking good is that new Bronx record? I’ve been a fan of The Bronx since their first record. III is so good that now their second record make more sense to me. I think great records from bands will always make you go back through their catalog and listen to everything with new ears. This album shows their progression, and I love that. I heard about their upcoming mariachi record, and I’m very excited about it. This album is one of the best records that has come out in a long time. I’d love to see Leathermouth and The Bronx tour together.”

2. MorrisseyYears of Refusal

“I recently got the new Morrissey which I dig.”

3. The KillersDay & Age

“I’m also enjoying the new Killers record. I think it’s really good.”

4. Otis Redding

“I’m completely obsessed with Otis Redding. I love ‘These Arms Are Mine’ and ‘That’s How Strong My Love Is.’ Those are some of my favorite songs. They’re unlikely love songs because they’re all about the pain involved in losing someone you love. To me, those are the best soul songs. I love ’60s soul. I don’t know if it’s because I grew up listening to the stuff my dad listened to. My mom was definitely more of a ’50s girl. She loved Doo Wop. My dad’s a huge Joe Cocker fan though, and he loves all of these other great soul singers. That’s really my favorite type of music. I could listen to that shit forever.”

5. Percy Sledge
